Healthier Coffee Additions

Before COVID, when I worked in the office, my mornings were really hectic. I’d wake up at 4:45, clumsily pack lunches, make coffee, shower, and try to get everyone out the door on time.

I was too distracted to notice how much sweetened creamer I was pouring into my travel mug. Looking back, I probably used 2 tablespoons of creamer per cup. I have about 3 cups of coffee on an average day. This adds up to 240 calories and 36 grams of sugar! Yikessss.

Needless to say, I’m trying to break this habit and seek out healthier options.

Instead of sweetened cream, I now use organic half and half or coconut milk. Instead of sugar, a few drops of honey or maple syrup do the trick. When I’m feeling fancy, I love the sugar-free syrups from Monin. Spices (especially cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice) also add a unique flavor.

Some days, when I’m really craving my favorite Starbucks Caramel Macchiato cream, I allow myself to have it. But now, I’m sure to measure out the serving size, and I limit my intake to 1 or 2 cups.
