I’m the kind of person who has several drinks on her desk throughout the day. I usually have a coffee, something fizzy, and water. It’s a problem.
It’s very easy to drink your calories away – especially when working a desk job. There’s something really satisfying about working on a big project, zoned-in, headphones on, sipping on an iced mocha. It all sounds good until I remember that a Starbucks Mocha Frappuccino has 61 grams of sugar.
When I’m craving lemonade, sweet iced coffee, or soda, here are a few drinks I make instead.
Instead of Lemonade: True Lemon Powdered Drink Mixes
I have been on the True Lemon bandwagon for a few years now. Their lemonade packets are sweetened with Stevia and don’t contain any artificial colors or flavors. Simply tear open the packet and add the contents to a large glass of ice water. You have sweet, refreshing lemonade for 10 calories and 1 gram of sugar per glass.
Instead of a Starbucks Blonde Vanilla Latte: Easy DIY Vanilla Iced Coffee
Starbucks lattes are delicious, but a Grande Vanilla Latte has 190 calories and 28 grams of sugar. I’ve learned to make mine at home using only black coffee, half and half, and a splash of Monin’s Zero Calorie Vanilla Syrup. I personally love their “Clean Label” line that doesn’t contain any artificial ingredients.
Instead of Sprite or Soda: Fruity Carbonated Water
We drink a lot of carbonated water in our household. It’s sugar free, calorie free, and satisfies my constant need to drink something fizzy. To jazz things up, I will often add a splash of fruit juice or a Zero Calorie Syrup (pro tip: try the raspberry) and a few frozen blueberries.
Between these three swaps, I’m usually quite satisfied in the drinks department. I haven’t really missed soda, fancy coffees, or traditional lemonade.
